Would you DIE for a LIE?

If you were spreading a lie and were about to be killed for it, and all you had to do was confess the truth to live... would you?

OR

Would you choose to be fed to lions in a stadium for all to see? For a lie...

Or choose rather to have your head sliced off your shoulders? For a lie...

Why did most of Jesus' disciples die for their belief in Him? All they had to do was recant His name and they could have lived. But they didn't. They went to their death instead. Could it be because what they claimed and believed wasn't a lie, but was true?

What if you knew a man who claimed to be the only way to God? This man performed miracles, raised deceased people from the dead right in front of your eyes, healed the sick, etc. Then this man was killed, you watched him die. But days later he was raised from the dead, and you saw him! Along with 500 other eye witnesses! Chances are, you would probably believe he was really who he claimed to be.

The disciples as well as an estimated 70 million other Christians throughout the last 2000 years went to their death for believing in Jesus. They refused to deny Him, no matter what the cost. Why? Because they knew He was who He said He was. So, the question is... would all these men have died for what they knew was a lie?

Have you seen ProfMTH's treatment of this question on YouTube? Here is a link to the first video in the series (it has eight parts):

I think it is a very thorough examination of the question from a non-believer's point of view, and in my mind it settles the question definitively.

Let me know what you think.
